Privacy Policy

How ByteX handles information submitted through this website.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to ByteX, an independent technology consultancy based in Tasmania, Australia, and to information collected through the https://www.bytex.com.au website.

2. Information collected through enquiries

When you submit the enquiry form, ByteX collects the information you provide, which is:

  • Your name and business name
  • Your email address, and your phone number if you choose to supply it
  • Your location and industry
  • The service you are interested in
  • Your description of what you want to automate or improve
  • The systems you tell us you currently use
  • Your indicated timeframe, budget range and consultation preference
  • The fact that you gave consent, and when

Only what you type into the form is collected. ByteX does not build a profile of you from other sources and does not purchase contact data.

3. Why this information is collected

The information is collected and used to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and assess whether ByteX can assist
  • Prepare for and hold a discovery conversation
  • Prepare a proposal or scope where the work proceeds
  • Keep a record of enquiries for business administration

Your details are not used for marketing, are not added to a mailing list, and are not sold or provided to third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Service providers

ByteX uses third-party service providers to operate this website and its email. Depending on the configuration in use, these may include a website hosting provider, an email delivery provider, and cloud storage or infrastructure services. These providers process information only to provide their service.

Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful. It records pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, and general device and browser information. It is not used for advertising, and ByteX does not attempt to identify individual visitors from it. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to tell repeat visits apart. These are not essential to the site working, and you can block or delete them in your browser, or use Google's opt-out add-on, without losing any functionality. No consent banner is shown; this notice is how the cookies are disclosed. Using Google Analytics means information about your visit is disclosed to Google and processed on its servers outside Australia, including in the United States. That is a cross-border disclosure under Australian Privacy Principle 8.

5. Storage and security

Enquiries are stored using the configured storage mechanism, with access restricted to ByteX. Reasonable technical and organisational measures are applied, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), server-side validation, rate limiting and spam protection on the enquiry form.

Enquiry contents are not written to application logs. Logs record a reference and the outcome of an operation, not the personal information you submitted.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please do not send passwords, payment details or other credentials through the enquiry form. ByteX will never ask for them by email.

6. Cross-border disclosure

Information submitted through this website is stored and processed outside Australia. At present that means Germany (website hosting) and the United States (database hosting). ByteX uses providers with appropriate security practices, and all transfers are made over encrypted connections.

If you would prefer not to have your information stored overseas, please say so when you contact ByteX and an alternative can be discussed.

7. Cookies

This website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function, such as the anti-forgery token that protects the enquiry form from cross-site request forgery. These are essential cookies and are not used for tracking or advertising. Google Analytics additionally sets non-essential cookies, described in section 4. Blocking them does not affect anything on this site.

8. Retention

Enquiries are retained for approximately 24 months (currently configured as 730 days) so that ByteX can respond to follow-up questions and maintain business records, unless a longer period is required for a project that proceeded or by law. You may ask for your enquiry to be deleted sooner.

9. Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information ByteX holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Requests are normally actioned within a reasonable period. ByteX may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10. Australian privacy considerations

ByteX aims to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and collects only what is reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry. If you are not satisfied with how a privacy matter has been handled, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the business or its service providers change. The current version is always the one published on this page.
